Metrology - PDC Bearing Manufacture


To support increased demand for Poly-crystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) bearings, Glynn Technical Diamonds has made a substantial investment in precision measurement technology to ensure customers continue to receive high performance downhole diamond bearing products. In order for Glynn Technical Diamonds to maintain credibility with customers, accuracy and repeatability are key. The acquisition of a Mitutoyo Crysta-Apex S544 Co-ordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) provides Glynn Technical Diamonds with high-precision measurement capabilities for an increasingly complex range of PDC bearings, guaranteeing high performance and durability in the field.

Glynn Technical Diamonds operators have been awarded accreditation to City & Guilds Level 2 Dimensional Metrology, while verification gauges have also been added to enable calibration to UKAS and ISO 10360 Measurement Standards. The ability to generate QC dimensional inspection reports that are fully verified and traceable to international standards adds an additional layer to an already extensive suite of quality assurance tools.

The Mitutoyo CMM compliments the existing use by Glynn Technical Diamonds of X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) to verify steel body race material specification and condition, as well as braze alloy specification. Ultrasonic and dye-penetrant crack detection are further used to ensure joint integrity and diamond insert qualification. Metrology, coupled with advanced high temperature brazing techniques, precision CNC machining, as well as extensive PDC cutter processing knowledge makes Glynn Technical Diamonds the ideal PDC thrust bearings supply partner.
